Electrical Shutdown 12/22-12/26

Greetings!

  
Houston Public Library will be closed from Saturday, December 22 to Tuesday, December 25, 2012.
 
On Wednesday, December 26, 2012 all library locations will open at NOON
  •  Staff at Central and JIB need to report to work at 9:00 am and not earlier (Evening staff starts the day at the usual time).
  Personnel/timekeeping:
  •  People who would normally work on Saturday, December 22 will need to be scheduled to get their hours on other days during that pay period – Supervisors should start notifying employees.
  • Kronos pay period close timecard approvals will need to be completed by supervisors Friday at close of business.
  
Phones:
  •  Neighborhood Libraries and Special Collections, on Friday, December 21, please change the phone message to indicate the library is closed. Instructions are available at https://hplnet.hpl.lib.tx.us/depts-it-faq.html; check under “Q.: How do I change the phone greeting/ announcement?”
  •  Central Library will work with IT/ITD to change the phone tree from open to closed for Saturday (12/22) through Wednesday morning (12/26 @ Noon)
  • HPL telephones will not work during the shutdown. HPL employees will need to communicate by cell phone.
  • Supervisors make sure you are reachable by cell phone, particularly the morning of Wednesday, December 26
 
 On Friday, December 21
  •  All HPL employees will need to leave all library buildings shortly after closing on December 21 and not enter any library buildings until the morning of December 26 with the exception of emptying book drops in Neighborhood Libraries and placing returned books in the buildings.
  •  BACKUP of all servers including File and Print as well as Millennium will begin 6:00pm Friday night and end around 10:00pm Friday night.
  • Shutdown of all servers and Network equipment will begin at 10:30pm and be finished by 11:30pm
Central and JIB Staff - The Central Library Complex will not have electricity for 4 days; therefore,
  •   Empty all refrigerators.
  •  Shutdown of Staff PCs before leaving for the day
  •  Shutdown of all Public PCs
  •  Please exit the buildings by 6:00 PM

IT will work with Central and NL staff on shutdown of self-checks and reservation stations
 
  •  I will verify with Ron the shutdown process for public printers, microfilm readers, etc. at Central and JIB
 
Communications will be providing closed signs as usual. These signs will detail the reason why we are closing an extra day during the Holidays.
 
Anyone attempting to access an HPL webpage will be re-directed to a dummy website which will have a version of the information currently provided at:

Existing OverDrive customers will be able to access their accounts as usual; of course, new accounts cannot be created during these four days.
