Thank you for sending me updates about the Open Job Labs held at your respective locations.  Special thanks to locations that do not have computer labs so the program is offered in a meeting or conference room.  The most successful Open Job Labs are offered at a regularly scheduled time and entered into the calendar of events.  In this way, customers know what to expect and when they can attend.  Thank you for motivating your staff to offer this service.

Lights Out Houston

The “Energy Capital of the World” will continue its sustained commitment to become the “Energy Conservation Capital” by turning off non-essential lights from April 25 to April 28, 2013. LightsOut Houston started in 2008 as a city-wide commitment to energy efficiency by commercial building owners and their tenants. The goal of the program has expanded to establish a sustained reduction in the use of non-essential electricity by all buildings throughout the Greater Houston area. Participants are asked to sign a pledge of their commitment to energy conservation.

Please remind your staff, housekeeping staffs and building engineers to have your non essential lights in your building turned off by 10 pm tonight. This does not include security lights or occupied offices. Please continue to keep non essential lights off through the weekend.

Open Enrollment Deadline is April 15th

Time is running out to choose a health benefits plan


Failure to act will be costly

We are very quickly nearing the end of open enrollment for employee health benefits.

All city employees must go online and re-enroll in the medical plan of their choice by Monday, April 15.

Employees who fail to re-enroll online will be automatically placed in the Open Access plan. This plan has the largest network, but it is also the most costly of the plans offered. The impact could be as much as $91.66 more per paycheck. Your copayments and coinsurance will also be higher.

If you are automatically placed in the Open Access plan, there will not be another opportunity to change to a plan of your choice until spring 2014. I strongly encourage you to review the biweekly rates and select a plan that is best for you.

Please, take the necessary 15-20 minutes to make your elections for this year. While you are there to re-enroll in your medical plan, take a look at the new vision plan or consider the money-saving benefits of enrolling in the Healthcare Flexible Spending Account.

You work hard to provide the residents of Houston quality customer service, and I want to extend the same to you when it comes to employee benefits.

Don't pay more for your medical insurance than needed, go online to www.houstontx.gov/oe to enroll today.
